ENGINEERING GRAPHIC COMMUNICATIONS
STEM-FET-6
Apply fundamental principles of the engineering design process.
-
6.3 Refine a design by using technical sketches, prototypes and modeling to ensure quality, efficiency, and productivity of the final product.
-
6.7 Finalize solutions and communicate observation, processes, and results of the entire design process, using verbal, graphic, quantitative, qualitative, virtual, and physical means.
Essential Question(s):
1. How do engineers communicate abstract ideas?
2. Why is important to communicate clearly to our customer?
BIG IDEA
Engineers communicate and express ideas and concepts utilizing sketches. It really is true that a picture is worth a 1000 words but what if you want to show something that does not yet exist (aka "abstract")?
That is where Isometric and Orthographic drawings come in.
Orthographic
Isometric
Orthographic drawing refers to a 2-D representation of an object in a view that shows only one side at a time. Most orthographic drawings occur in multi-drawing sets in order to depict each side, top and bottom view.

Isometric projection is a method for visually representing three-dimensional objects in two dimensions in technical and engineering drawings.

LINE CONVENTIONS
Line Conventions are lines of varying style and thickness used in specific ways to develop and communicate graphic messages about an object's geometry
